ready-to-use supplementary food in Banki IDP camp, Borno state, northeast Nigeria. Banki is one of the newly accessible area where UNICEF is offering humanitarian assistance with other partners. Daily the health center in Banki attends to
86-98 clients. UNICEF estimates that 244,000 children will suffer from Severe Acute Malnutrition this year in Borno state alone. UNICEF with other partners are supporting the health clinic, providing mainly treatment for malaria,
respiratory infections and diarrhoea, as well as screening children for malnutrition and providing treatment for malnourished children. UNICEF is repairing and upgrading boreholes so people have access to safe water and building latrines to
help prevent disease. Child Protection teams are also working to register children who have become separated from their families, to find caregivers who are able to look after them temporarily and to begin the process of trying to trace
their families.
